WWE 205 Live Results: Danny Burch vs. Tony Nese

Tony Nese likes to think of himself as the measuring stick of 205 Live, and as a former champion of the brand, that is well deserved. He was the captain of Team 205 recently as they went to war with the NXT Cruiserweights, coming up short. He has since been working his way through the members of that team, starting with defeating Oney Lorcan two weeks ago. Now faced with Lorcan’s best friend, ‘The Strong Style Brit’ Danny Burch, how would things go for ‘The Premiere Athlete’?

Tony Nese Planned This One Perfectly

As soon as the bell rang, they were already locked up. Burch had his chance to redeem his elimination in the 10 man tag, where Nese eliminated him. The match started slow, with Nese using his technical prowess to control the match. Burch would fight out and show his own technical side, attempting a single leg boston crab. Nese would regain control with a leg lock of his own, with added leverage due to a foot pushing on the bottom rope, before going for his own modified single leg boston crab.

Once they were vertical, Burch took Nese back down with a headlock takeover before being countered into a headscissors. They would continue to trade submissions until things got moving, with Nese hitting the ropes only to be picked out of the sky for a facebuster. Burch approached Nese but was sent to the apron and the first big blow of the match was launched as Nese hit a huge back elbow. Not wanting to end this on a count out, Nese went outside at a count of 8 to restart the count and punish Burch with some brawling. After getting him back in the ring, Nese hits a standing splash for a 2 count, then locks in a bodyscissors. The game plan was working perfectly to shut down Burch, but it angered the hard hitting Brit.

Finally breaking free again with a Jawbreaker, Burch was finally able to start to launch his heavy strikes, with punches, uppercuts and lariats being capped off with a front dropkick off the middle rope for a near fall. The pace had finally picked up, and Burch attempted a German Suplex but Nese was able to find his feet and deliver a stomp to the chest. Nese would go over the top rope with Burchs head, sending his throat into the top rope, and then hitting a springboard moonsault for a near fall. Burch was not ready to give up, and would trap Nese in a brutal Crossface. Nese was able to escape, hit a German Suplex into the corner, then go for the Running Nese to finish the match.

This Win Gives Nese Momentum Going Into Tournament

With the tournament for the interium NXT Cruiserweight Championship starting soon, Nese is a sure pick for one of the 8 men involved. A former champion on a two win streak gives him a great chance going in, and he has won tournaments in the past. Do you think Tony Nese will have a good chance in this coming tournament? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
