At WWE Elimination Chamber, fans in Montreal would cheer on Sami Zayn as he battled WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
It was a truly special moment in the career of Zayn, even with him coming up short. Some still think it was time for this epic reign to end, but Zayn feels it was just one chapter on his quest to becoming the WWE Universal Champion.
Sami Zayn Feels His Match Against Reigns Needs Time To Settle Still
While speaking with Xfinty, Zayn would speak about that night in Montreal, and feels it was simply one part in his story. Zayn was quoted saying the following.
“It would have been kind of perfect, a storybook ending, if I had dethroned Roman. Sure, of course, but if you look at more five years from now, ten years from now, the totality of where it all lies, I think you will see that it is one great chapter, hopefully, in a story. For sure, unquestionably, whether it was the right or wrong decision, the way it ended, there is no question that had it gone my way that night in Montreal or at WrestleMania or something with Roman, unquestionably it would have been a moment that would have definitely been replayed many times. I still think what we did was very special and as you can see by what has continued to happen with The Usos and Roman, that story still has some special moments. This is one of those things where you just need time to see where it all falls.”
Zayn would be crucial in the downfall of The Bloodline, as he would defeat The Usos alongside Kevin Owens at WrestleMania. That resulted in Owens & Zayn finally becoming the WWE Tag Team Champions.
This loss also kicked off the Bloodline Civil War, putting Roman Reigns & Solo Sikoa against The Usos. They would battle at Money In The Bank, where Jey Uso pinned Reigns for the first time in years.
