Right now, there is some history making reigns happening within WWE. Roman Reigns recently passed 1000 days as WWE Universal Champion, being the longest reigning world champion in modern WWE history.
However, another reign has been happening – and has been consistently called one of the best parts of WWE. This is Imperium leader GUNTHER as the WWE Intercontinental Champion.
With his no nonsense attitude and hard hitting style, GUNTHER is closing in on the longest reign in the belts history – and thinks he’s gotten pretty good at being a champion at this point.
GUNTHER Thinks He’s Good At Being A Champion
While speaking with the Daily Mail, GUNTHER would be asked about how he feels being positioned as a champion within WWE. The Ring General would have the following to say in response.
“I think it’s something I’m good at. It might sound weird but I think I’m good at being a champion in wrestling. Because I carry myself a certain way, I add to the legacy of the title and I add my own legacy in the same process of that. It’s a big responsibility and I take it very serious, but it’s also very rewarding as well.”
We have seen previous holders of this belt comment on how GUNTHER being such a dominant champion has boosted the stock of the belt. Wade Barrett even said GUNTHER did more for the belt in a single reign than he did with five reigns – you can read his comments here.
One Hurdle Left Before Making History
There is one major hurdle standing between GUNTHER & the record set by the Honky Tonk Man in the 1980’s – and that is Drew McIntyre.
Having already defeated McIntyre at WrestleMania 39, GUNTHER didn’t expect to have to face him again. The former WWE Champion had different plans however, and would return after an absence to challenge GUNTHER for Summerslam.
This is already expected to be one of the best matches of the year, and a showcase of exactly what the Intercontinental Championship is all about. Honor has been brought back to this belt, and it’s once again viewed as the ‘workhorse’ championship in WWE.
