CM Punk was able to return to the ring earlier this year for All Elite Wrestling following a Torn Tricep in 2023. Since his return, Punk has been making headlines by declaring himself the ‘Real AEW World Champion’ and has been the driving force behind the newly launched AEW Collision show.
However, even being kept on separate shows from The Elite has not kept them off his mind, after their behind the scenes issues in 2022. Following the most recent episode of Collision, Punk would take aim at Hangman Page.
CM Punk Found Out Why They Call Him Hangman Page
In a promo cut for the fans in the arena, CM Punk had the following to say about Hangman Page after noticing a sign for the former AEW World Heavyweight Champion.
“Carolina is Hangman country. Earlier today, I went to a local supermarket and I figured out why they call him Hangman. It’s because the pegs in the toy aisle are full of Hangman action figures because nobody wants to buy them. He’s a peg warmer, unlike me, who moves merchandise, pops ratings, sells toys. You got everybody in AEW saying, ‘I’m the heart, I’m the soul, I’m the spirit.’ Well, that’s objective, what’s a fact is the people who say that certainly aren’t the chin of AEW because the lights go out faster than…what? GTS, Go To Sleep, I don’t know what I’m trying to do. I got rocked too. I told the House of Black, ‘no chops,’ and they chopped me, so I’m very mad,
Setting The Stage For A Huge Night In Chicago
There is no way that this was not planned by AEW. While it was not shown on TV, it’s well known that fans are always recording on cell phones after the show ends.
CM Punk vs. The Elite is an incredibly hot angle for the company, and one that they’re slowly working towards. Punk is aligned with FTR, who will face The Young Bucks at All In.
While some felt CMFTR vs. Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks would be the ideal main event for a show the scale of All In, that doesn’t seem to be the plan.
However, there is more PPV events coming in 2023 for AEW, including All Out on September 3rd in Chicago. AEW can put this match together very quickly, and fans might be in for a treat after All In as a result.
