Normally, we don’t get the details on wrestlers not liking each other after they leave a company. That’s why there was some shock after Cody Rhodes simply said that he doesn’t wish to wrestle World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins.
Cody Rhodes Shocked WWE Fans After Saying That He Doesn’t Want to Face Seth Rollins Again
The statement came during an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vilet, Cody Rhodes told the host that he didn’t want to face Rollins again. Last year saw the two face off in three bouts at WrestleMania 38, WrestleMania Backlash, and Hell in a Cell. As it turned out, Rhodes wiped Rollins in all three bouts.
Considering that Seth Rollins is a very well-liked superstar now, Rhodes’ statements didn’t go over well. Fans were shocked and upset and let it be known. Many took to social media to voice why they didn’t like Rhodes with some even expressing that they felt he was overrated.
A few expressed hope that the two would not only bury the beef but work together in the future. That’s important to note because the two did smooth things over but Cody Rhodes just isn’t a fan of facing Seth Rollins again. Recently, the two expressed some admiration of the other and Seth chalked it up to some “professional jealousy”.
Perhaps it was how much emphasis he put on not wanting to face the World Heavyweight champion. Watching the interview, the idea of the match appears to simply not be appealing to him. Sure, the fans might want it but if one side isn’t on board, there’s really not much that can be done except cater to the problematic side either in cash or creative.
That could be another issue, fans have become accustomed to superstars “getting their win back” down the road—but not too far. Cody Rhodes pretty much steamrolled Seth Rollins in the feud with the champion being unable to take their series.
It sets up something down the road whether it’s a rivalry or a feud. The thing is making sure both superstars are built up enough to handle whatever loss may come.
For now, Cody Rhodes has slayed his dragon in Brock Lesnar while Seth Rollins successfully retained the WWE World Heavyweight title against Finn Balor—both matches having gone down at the 2023 SummerSlam.
