In 2020, AEW would debut the TNT Championship. It was intended to be their version of a Television Championship, and would primarily be used as a midcard championship.
Despite this, the likes of Brodie Lee, Miro, Cody Rhodes & Darby Allin made this belt feel as important as the AEW World Championship with their work. While this belt had a strong start, 2023 has been a rough year for the legacy of the belt, and Allin feels the belt has lost all of it’s value.
Darby Allin Feel The TNT Championship Needs To Be Respected Again
During the latest AEW Control Center video, former two time TNT Champion Darby Allin had some hard truths to speak about the current value of the belt. Allin had the following to say.
“I’m gonna be honest when I say this. To me, the TNT Championship used to mean something. Within the last year, I’ve felt it lost all its value. I remember the people that used to hold it. Guys like Cody, guys like Brodie Lee, myself. Back then, it meant something. Now, it’s like a hot potato.
Honestly, I feel like it’s lost it’s value. So when I say at All Out, I want to put some respect back on that championship’s name, I mean every word of that.
Because you got a guy like Christian Cage, for example, walking around saying he’s the champion. Come on, man. We’re not stupid. You’re wasting people’ time. That championship means more than that. Then you got a dinosaur as the champion that never defends it? What are we doing here? What are we doing here?”
Darby Allin won the 2023 Royal Rampage Battle Royale, and will face champion Luchasaurus at All Out 2023 on September 3rd for the belt.
Ahead of this, Allin is set to face Christian Cage in singles action on the August 19th episode of AEW Collision. He is also set for action at All In 2023, teaming with Sting to face Swerve Strickland & AR Fox in a Coffin Match.
