It’s another month and former WWE Champion and Impact World Champion Drew McIntyre has not re-signed with the company.
He continues to wrestle on WWE RAW but his contract is coming up early next year. It has drawn a lot of attention to just what is going on between WWE and Drew as well as if he will even renew his contract.
Drew McIntyre Still Hasn’t Re-Signed with WWE as Contract Comes Up in Early 2024
The issue here seems to be money as Drew McIntyre has a figure of what he expects—or what he’ll accept—but with the time it’s taken for WWE to accept, it appears that the company thinks he’s asking for too much.
In August 2023 on his Keepin It 100 podcast, Konnan expressed that McIntyre was worth the money not only as a talent but as a draw in the European markets.
Drew is a very notable figure when WWE heads to the UK. Losing him would set things back a bit on that front. Booking-wise, Drew is at that point where he can be written off TV in some way—and has been.
While speaking with TMZ Sports, Drew McIntyre said that he was happy with the news and rumors surrounding his return and if he’d leave as he had been off TV but fans were still talking.
It’s truly a feat as most wrestlers who have been out are only discussed when it’s close to a return to television. At the time, McIntyre was getting surgery. He also discussed the perspective wrestlers get from being at home:
“We’re 52 weeks per year. You go, go, go. Sometimes you can lose that perspective. And the last time I really had a hard look at myself outside the bubble was in 2014 when I got fired by WWE. So this time, I didn’t have to get fired, thank goodness I had some time off, and I was able to sit down, reassess things, think about what I want to achieve within the industry and as a person, and return with that mindset and come right into a huge match and I’m very excited.”
