Gunther has nothing but respect for Chad Gable after their recent matches over the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
Gable came as close as anyone at stopping Gunther from breaking the record of the longest reign in the belts extensive history, but was unable to put The Ring General down. Even before they shared a ring together, Gunther was well aware of the skills Gable brought to the ring – and would use his matches to help coach wrestlers in Germany.
Gunther Would Show WXW Dojo Students Chad Gable’s NXT Tag Team Matches
While speaking with Haus Of Wrestling, Gunther would praise Gable – and had the following to say.
“I think he’s an amazing athlete. I mean, former Olympian. What can you say? And just in general, I remember when I was still in Germany, running my wrestling school. I used to show all the students the tag match from him and Jason Jordan against The Revival back then. He’s an amazing wrestler. He’s a little bit of a goofy fella at the moment; I’m not sure if that suits him as much, and, yeah, maybe it’s needed that I’m the one that brings that other side out of him.”
Gunther was the head trainer of the dojo for German based Westside Xtreme Wrestling before signing a full time deal with WWE.
This was one aspect that kept him to NXT UK for the first years of his WWE career, as he was reluctant to give up that role. It might well come into play again later in his career, with the WWE Performance Center always needing more capable coaches.
The matches between American Alpha & The Revival (now AEW’s FTR) were some of the best from WWE at the time. They are often overlooked due to the matches with #DIY coming shortly after and setting the standard for tag team wrestling in the company going forward.
