On this past weeks episode of NXT, we saw a new man become NXT Tag Team Champion. While Pete Dunne is unable to travel to Florida to defend alongside his partner Matt Riddle, he chose his replacement. This is Timothy Thatcher, one of the most technically sound grapplers on the planet today. He is no-nonsense, hard hitting, and an excellent fit to replace Pete Dunne. This is only temporary, and Dunne will be back eventually. When this happens, should the Broserweights become a trio?
We Could See Timothy Thatcher & Matt Riddle Bond In Dunnes Absence
After they successfully defended the NXT Tag Team Championships against Undisputed Era members Bobby Fish & Roderick Strong, it seems Riddle & Thatcher will be an imposing tag team. Dunne & Riddle were already an odd-couple team, but they bonded into a excellent unit through humorous skits. We will see the same happen with Thatcher, but maybe in a different way. Thatcher could rub off on Riddle, and we could see a more vicious version of Matt Riddle.
Could Pete Dunne Be Completely Replaced?
With in unclear when Pete Dunne will be able to come back and reclaim his half of the NXT Tag Team Championships, it could be too late for the Broserweights. By then, the belts could be lost or it could just seem as though Dunne’s replacement becomes the new full time partner. While The Broserweights were an extremely popular team in their short stint, the magic could have already ended and we don’t know it yet.
Thatcher Has Other Alliances Hiding In Plain Sight
While it was known Thatcher was signed to WWE for months now, people expected him to pop up in NXT UK. He has friends in high places there, being a former member of Ringkampf, who’s members started up a group by the name of Imperium in NXT UK. Thatcher is an ally of NXT UK Champion WALTER, having tagged with him many times in the past, and also being one of the few men who can match his physicality. Once WALTER is able to make his way back to NXT, we could see Thatcher rejoin his friends and abandon Riddle in the process. It would allow for some easy storyline progression, as Dunne can make the save to reform the Broserweights, and maybe bring Moustache Mountain in for extra backup.
