Drew McIntyre Weighs in On CM Punk Potentially Returning Prior to WWE Passing On the Greatest in the World
Drew McIntyre is a superstar who really held it down for RAW during COVID-19—even dealing with it himself. This year he became the subject of contract discussion when it was pointed out that his contract hasn’t been renewed yet. The story around his contract situation really caught people’s attention when was mentioned that the two sides weren’t meeting on a favorable amount.
Speculation has ranged from he’ll be leaving the company to it’ll play into an angle. It has also gotten other personalities in wrestling to touch on the situation. Despite what’s going on behind the scenes with his money, Drew McIntyre continues to represent the company well in interviews and entertained the CM Punk topic while speaking with SportsKeeda:
“I mean, I don’t make those decisions. I watch what I say in interviews. But he’s certainly controversial and he gets people talking. So, I’ll leave it at that.” (h/t: Ringside News)
CM Punk was last in WWE was at the 2014 Royal Rumble and leading up to it, Punk he come to the conclusion that it was best to walk for his own sake. The thing is that CM Punk left WWE in a manner that it became news: he walked out. Walkouts will always be news in wrestling because of how rare they are to happen.
At that time, people didn’t leave WWE unless they were future endeavored by the company. People just didn’t leave the company. So, of course Punk being WWE-bound—besides AEW could what company could afford him?
A company would have to really hope that CM Punk just wants to wrestle and work with the younger stars and would offer a discount to really think it has a chance of scooping up The Best in the World.
What Drew McIntyre said is definitely true, people will talk about Punk whether it’s his interactions backstage or his contract status.
