While he wasn’t part of the giant batch of releases from WWE, Curtis Axel has now joined them as he has now been released from the company. A former Intercontential Champion and Tag Team Champion, Axel showed some serious potential at spots in his WWE career. His biggest wins came when he was able to beat Triple H, around the same time he became a client of Paul Heyman. Nothing came from either of those, but could Curtis Axel finally find his place in wrestling outside of WWE?
The Son Of Mr. Perfect
While WWE never really cashed in on this, Curtis Axel is the son of the legendary Curt Henning, best known as Mr. Perfect. One of the best technical wrestlers of all time, Mr. Perfect is highly regarded even today by fans. Axel has shown glimmers of being as good a wrestler as his father, but never showed the same confidence as his father. His release could finally give him the chance to find that confidence.
Curtis Axel Would Be Perfect For NWA
With a throwback style of presentation and a focus on great in ring action, Curtis Axel could fit in perfectly. He is the definition of a solid worker, being the man WWE trusted to get The Rock & Brock Lesnar ready to return to the ring. That solid nature could lead to some incredible matches with someone like Nick Aldis, who is the current NWA Heavyweight Champion. Add in his underrated charisma and ability on the microphone, and we could see him finally show that he is capable of being a star.
It’s unclear if Curtis Axel asked for his release or not, but is he did he will likely have a plan on what is next. He was hardly being used within WWE, having not appeared on TV in several months. His last appearence came in a squash match against Daniel Bryan, with matches being months apart typically. With WWE potentially doing away with live events, it would be even harder for Axel to get used, making this a great career move for him, as he will get a chance to show his skills once again.
