Recently for AEW programming, there has been a large amount of unsigned indie stars making their names known across Dark & Dynamite. Names like Suge D (aka Pineapple Pete), Shawn Dean, Musa, Lee Johnson, & Alan Angels are just a few of the men who have gotten a chance to shine on TV due to the reduced roster in AEW. Many will likely end up with developmental style contracts by the time it is all over, and it has been a net positive for everyone involved. Fans are starting to love these underdogs that might never win, and should AEW keep that as a part of their programming once things are normal again?
It Keeps Their Signed Stars Protected
While WWE will do squash matches on occasion, they have not done them to the quantity that AEW has as of late. This has allowed their stars to be built up, without ruining potential stars. The only signed talent that has filled a ‘jobber’ role as of late is Marko Stunt of Jurassic Express but he has always been low on the AEW totem pole and never someone who would blossom into a major star. Local talent has been used to build up stars like Wardlow as of late, saving potentially big matches for down the line.
AEW Dark Should Start To Feature Matches Exclusively With These Unsigned Wrestlers
While it might not be best for AEW Dynamite to have a match filled with talent that isn’t signed to AEW Contracts, AEW Dark could feature a multiman tag match focused on these jobber talents. Once crowds are back, this could be an incredible way to get people excited, as this talent could warm up the crowd before Dynamite begins. It would be akin to the Young Lions in NJPW, who go out and get things started on every show.
Pineapple Pete Is Likely To Get A Match With Chris Jericho
Out of all these talents, no one has more potential in AEW than Suge D, or as he has been redubbed due to his wardrobe choices, Pineapple Pete. After being dubbed so by Le Champion himself, he would face Sammy Guevara on Dynamite and lose, but Jericho still takes any chance to insult Suge on commentary. Jericho will return to the ring next week for a Hardcore Tag Match, but his next singles match could be a squash against Pineapple Pete.
