NJPW Ace Kazuchika Okada Eyes The IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships

While he has not entered a ring in months, Kazuchika Okada remains a star for NJPW. In order to keep his fans engaged, he would ask them to send in questions for him to answer in an interview for NJPW1972.com.

During this, he expressed rare interest in a title beyond the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, which he recently shunned due to it now being tied together with the IWGP Intercontential Championship following the Double Gold Dash at Wrestle Kingdom 13.

Kazuchika Okada Is Interested In The IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Titles

After being asked by a fan who his favorite person to tag with is, he had the following to say. “It has to be YOSHI-HASHI. We’ve been together since we were both starting out in New Japan. We fought each other on our return match, but we get along really well. It’s easy to speak my mind with him, there isn’t any senpai/kohai stuff. I never get tired of teaming with him.”

This would prompt the interviewer to ask ‘Would you be interested in the tag titles?”

“I’ve gotta say, ever since Tanahashi and Ibushi won the tag belts, that division is looking a lot more appealing. The prospect of guys that I’ve fought so hard with in singles being tag champions, that’s intriguing..”

Okada would also take another shot at the Double Title situation saying “I know I only just lost my title to Naito, but if it’s a question of wrestling for the tag titles or a double IWGP championship match, the tag titles are more interesting to me.”

Getting Yoshi-Hashi A Much Needed Title Win

Okada has beaten both of those men in singles matches in the past, and they have been some of his greatest battles, with numerous five star classics in that category. It is also interesting that he would want to team with YOSHI-HASHI, a man who has never won a single championship in NJPW. Maybe if he teamed up with Okada, he would finally have an accolade to his name.

Would you be interested to see Kazuchika Okada chase the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Hiroshi Tanahashi & Kota Ibushi? Should he team with Tomohiri Ishiii, Will Ospreay or someone else more accomplished instead? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
