At AEW Double Or Nothing this Saturday, we have a ladder match to decide a new contender for the AEW Championship. We know eight of the nine entrants, meaning the match on paper is Darby Allin vs. Colt Cabana vs. Orange Cassidy vs. Rey Fenix vs. Scorpio Sky vs. Kip Sabian vs. Frankie Kazarian vs. Luchasaurus. The ninth man is being kept a mystery until showtime, which has the imaginations of fans rolling. Here are three potential picks for the mystery ninth man in the Casino Ladder match.
Chris Jericho’s Mortal Enemy, Pineapple Pete (Suge D)
We will start with the most underwhelming option, that being Pineapple Pete. Better known as Suge D, this understated wrestler had made his debut for the company on AEW Dark a few months back, but when Chris Jericho called him Pineapple Pete due to his shirt when he was in the crowd, fans truly latched onto him. Now having had proper matches on Dynamite with both Sammy Guevara & Chris Jericho, it is highly likely he is a part of the roster. Having him be involved in the Casino Ladder match would just cement this. Fans would be excited to see him get this chance, but it would be far from the huge exciting surprise people want.
Chris Hero Making His AEW Debut
A much bigger option than Pineapple Pete would be the debut of the man recently known as Kassius Ohno. Now having finished his second stint with WWE, he is keen to prove he is still one of the best wrestlers in the world. The indy wrestling legend would be right at home in AEW, and his agile and hard hitting style would definitely add to the ladder match environment. He would also be a great addition to the growing field of big men in AEW, alongside Luchasarus, Lance Archer, Brodie Lee and Wardlow. NXT talent only have a 30 day non-compete clause, meaning Hero is free to work wherever he pleases.
Brian Cage
It was rumored months ago that AEW was in talks with Brian Cage, one of the best heavyweights in wrestling today. He was out with an injury, but reports indicate he is healthy and waiting. While Chris Hero would be a great get for AEW, Brian Cage would be huge. Everywhere he has went, he has been a star, and AEW would be no exception. This would truly be a surprise worthy of the secrets surrounding the 9th man.
