In WWE, they have struggled more than most due to the lack of fans in their arenas. This has brought us cinematic classics like The Firefly Funhouse match, but they have been slow to adapt in these odd times. That should change very soon, as they have finally found a good way to make up for the lack of crowd, and that involves the stars of NXT.
WWE Plan To Have NXT Superstars Acting As The Crowd For RAW & Smackdown
Much like how AEW have had clusters of talent in their stands to make up for the lack of a crowd, something which made Double Or Nothing a very enjoyable show. WWE are planning to do this with the talent from their NXT Brand and trainees from the WWE Performance Center. This will allow for no more quiet matches, where you could hear a pin drop if commentary stopped. It is unclear if they intend to essentially fill the stands, or just have a handful of talent. They very well could just have Bobby Fish yell from the stands for the entire show, and it would be the equal to a crowd from Corpus Christi.
Plexiglass Will Separate The Crowd And The Ring
Part of this plan includes some modification to the setup found within the WWE Performance Center. The ringside area will now have added plexiglass, similar to a hockey rink. As someone who has seen countless indie wrestling shows from hockey rinks in Canada, I can speak to the possibilities this adds. Fans (or in this case NXT Wrestlers) slamming their hands off the glass during a wild brawl creates a chaotic atmosphere, and it also makes for an effective weapon. We could see things like Universal Champion Braun Strowman body checking his opponents into the glass, or even a spot where someone is thrown through the glass like we have seen in the Elimination Chamber.
This is overall a very smart move from WWE, should everything reported be true. Having some noise besides commentary during matches should be great, and the plexiglass should help to create a unique environment for the matches. There is no reported return of The Goon however, which is a shame as this would have been perfect for him.
Do you think this is a good idea from WWE? Will it add to the experience of their shows, or should they keep doing what they have been since before Wrestlemania? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
