Another episode of AEW Dynamite commences, the follow-up to Double Or Nothing 2020! After a recap we see the Inner Circle licking their wounds backstage. Sammy’s on crutches. Jericho says their egos are bruised, it’s been a rough week but that’s why they’re gonna have the pep rally tonight! They’ll bounce back and recoup their losses from all the Inner Circle Stadium Stampede Winner shirts. Jericho says thankfully it’s only a few boxes but Santana says their buddy Carlos got them a great deal and, turns out there’s a whole truck full of ’em! Jericho facepalms. Fortunately I have a feeling a lot of people will enjoy the irony of them and buy them anyway. Now we get the card rundown tonight. It includes a tag match for a shot at the AEW Tag Titles which, I thought the Best Friends already won a contender’s match but alright, plus the Dynamite debut of Cage! But now we have six-man tag action, Matt Hardy teaming with the Young Bucks against Joey Janela and Private Party!
Matt Hardy backstage says he requested a camera because this message needs delivering. He’s with the rest of the Elite and talks about how happy he was to be victorious alongside them. Kenny and Hangman excuse themselves and the Bucks ask Matt Hardy for another version. He goes back to Xtreme but Matt wants him to go back even further than that. He’s in a look meant to represent his OMEGA days now, although I actually recognize it being from his 2010 heel run. But hey, kayfabe~ Matt actually has different music in going with this gimmick change which is hilarious.
Matt Hardy & The Young Bucks vs. Joey Janela & Private Party
Quen and Matt Jackson start out, lock-up, Matt Jackson with a drop toe hold setting up a Nick Jackson elbow drop! They pose together and a weird glitch hits the screen. Hardy tags in, double enziguri/clothesline! Nick Jackson tags in and plays the role of Jeff Hardy with the Poetry In Motion! Kassidy tags back in, Nick with a shoulder block, Kassidy leap frogs… charges into a boot! Nick goes to the apron but a springboard Hot Shot catches him! Kassidy assists Quen with a crazy headscissor taking Nick onto the floor! Then Joey hits a suicide dive, driving him into the barrier and then hits a Death Valley Driver onto the floor! Back into the ring for a cover, Matt Jackson has to break it up!
Now Kassidy has Nick in an Abdominal Stretch. Grinding the knuckles against his side, Nick fighting out, waistlock, Kassidy with a back elbow to the face. Kick to the gut, whip, Private Party try for Silly String but Nick avoids it, superkick on the apron! Moonsault, Janela avoids it, gets sent to the crowd area, ducks a superkick and it nails Blade! Butcher and Blade are surrounding Nick, Matt Jackson leaps the barrier to attack them! Janela and the Bucks brawling on the floor. Nick takes Janela down on the ramp, Monkey Flip to Kassidy onto the apron, into the ring for a Canadian Destroyer on Quen! Finally makes the tag to Hardy! Hardy with a series of clotheslines, irish whip, back body drop! Side Effect! Nearfall.
Hardy with a kick, Kassidy blocks but eats a right hand! Kassidy with a step-up enziguri, Springboards for a Bulldog but Hardy catches him out of the air, in comes Quen but he gets a boot to the gut, DDT/Reverse DDT combo on Private Party! Janela off the second rope but gets caught with a Side Effect! Hardy lines all three of his opponents up and goes up top for a big moonsault onto all three of them! Nearfall! Matt Jackson tags in, brawls with Kassidy, Janela with a knee to the back, attacks Nick, goes up top for a missile dropkick onto both of them! Janela stands atop the bottom rope but Hardy catches him in a tree of woe position where he gets a Double Superkick!
But then Private Party with stereo topes on the Bucks! Quen looks to have hurt his leg on the way down though. Kassidy with a Pullover Flatliner on Hardy for a nearfall! Now he’s checking on Quen again. Kassidy takes Hardy up top, Nick stops him with a superkick! Kassidy is all by his lonesome now. Matt with a top rope elbow drop, More Bang For Your Buck, Nick keeps Janela from entering the ring to break it up and there’s the victory!
Winners: Matt Hardy & The Young Bucks
Expected result but fun stuff. The story there, and I hope it is just a story, basically saw Quen get isolated into being all by himself. Matt Hardy helps Kassidy to his feet and escorts him to the back, leaving the Bucks alone in the ring – and yeah it was definitely a story as that set them up for the Butcher and the Blade rushing the ring to attack them! But as they’re beating on them, a truck pulls up!! AND OUT COME FTR!!! A “Holy Shit” chant breaks out as they come into the ring! Butcher and Blade clearly think they’re on their side, Cash and Dax pull them up… but then they turn around and attack Butcher and Blade instead!! They whip Butcher to the ropes and nail him with a double forearm taking him to the outside! SPIKE PILEDRIVER ON BLADE!
FTR turns to face the Young Bucks… Butcher rushes back in, but he eats a Superkick that leads him right into the Shatter Machine!! Or whatever it’s called now! The foursome stare down… Bucks start to advance for a handshake but FTR turn their backs and make their leave!
