Damien Priest Was The Star Of WWE NXT Takeover: In Your House

When it comes to NXT Takeover events, there is usually someone who steals the show. This is often one of the top stars, someone like Adam Cole or Johnny Gargano. However, at NXT Takeover: In Your House, the man who got all the praise after the dust settled was Damien Priest. He was placed alongside Finn Balor in a simple grudge match, one that went about 13 minutes with back and forth action from the opening bell.

Throughout it, Priest looked to be every bit the equal of Balor, one of the men who are consistently praised as one of the best wrestlers in the entire company. Balor is a man who has been firing on all cylinders since his NXT return, but Priest has silently been one of the most solid men on the roster.

People Have Been Sleeping On Damien Priest For Years

Ever since his days within Ring Of Honor when he was known as Punishment Martinez, Priest has been one of the overlooked men in the wrestling. He rarely got much spotlight, due to being involved with ROH during a dull time in their history. His biggest chances came in collab shows with NJPW, where he notably clashed with both Hirooki Goto & Tomohiro Ishii in incredible matches.

Since coming to NXT, his feuds with Pete Dunne and encounters with Keith Lee have stood out, but his stock has never been higher. He’s got the look, he’s got a fantastic voice for promos, and there isn’t any denying he can go with the best of them in the ring.

Now Is The Time To Strike With Priest

During a time when people are being called up to RAW & Smackdown, Damien Priest deserves to be in the conversation for a shot. At 38 years old, his best years are slipping away, and while he could reasonably become NXT North American Champion, he has a chance to truly become a star on RAW & Smackdown. He has the ability to capture the imaginations of fans, and has the height and ability to really get the attention of the relevant higher-ups. They just released a great chunk of their roster, and while some might come back, there will be slots open. While people like Velveteen Dream have higher stock in WWE at the moment, they’re still young prospects. If WWE doesn’t act fast with Priest, they very well might miss their chance with him.

Do you think WWE should send Damien Priest to Monday Night RAW by the end of 2020? Would he be better used in NXT still? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
