WWE Monday Night Raw continues. Backstage Ric Flair tries to talk Christian out of the Unsanctioned match against Randy Orton tonight but he’s just not hearing it. Now out come Bayley and Sasha Banks. They take up microphones in the ring. Bayley says she doesn’t know if you guys know this but last night at Backlash they successfully defend their tag team championships so they’re in the mood to celebrate, what about you? But they have a bit more to celebrate. Does anyone know what day it is? It’s her birthday!! She says she thought she’d make this a whole birthday celebration week! Says on Wednesday they’ll take a trip over to NXT where they will whup on Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart. Then they’ll take it back home to SmackDown and finish the week strong. Sasha says she loves the sound of that. But she wants to send a message to the IIconics, they never get to tell us when we defend the titles.
She is the leader, Bayley is the role model! But as she’s talking them up, the IIconics emerge. Billie says no one wants another reading of their resumes. What everyone wants to hear is an answer to their challenge, yes or no? Bayley asks if they already forgot last night? Ding dong, they lost! Sasha asks if they think they’re special because they won a quick match tonight. Bayley says it doesn’t matter how many teams you put against them, the result is the same. Because they are THE team. The IIconics say they’re THE team who beat them for the Women’s tag titles last year at WrestleMania. Says the loss was so crushing they suffered two separate meltdowns! Sasha gets in their face but they slap her right across the face and Bayley freaks out on them for doing this on her birthday. She howls that she accepts! Sasha is aghast at this but really she should want to get this match.
Now out comes Nia Jax for her bout with Asuka tonight. I actually didn’t realize until just now this was a title rematch, I totally forgot the finish last night.
WWE Raw Women’s Championship: Asuka (c) vs. Nia Jax
Asuka with a dropkick out of the gate but Jax responds with a clothesline and then a few short arm clotheslines to follow up. She pulls her up to her feet, wants another but Asuka flips her into an armbar! Nia escapes, rolls to the apron. Asuka hits the ropes, charging hip attack, Nia avoids it and Asuka gets caught up in the ropes. Nia hoists her onto her shoulder but Asuka slips behind her for a choke! Uses most of the five count on this. Nia slowly re-enters the ring, Asuka with a series of leg kicks, big right hand drops her! Nia reaches down but a Triangle Choke counter is cinched in! Nia rolls under the ropes for a break and escapes to the floor. Asuka hits the ropes, baseball slide evades, Nia grabs her by the legs and hoists her up for a big powerbomb onto the floor! Who on Earth signed off on letting Nia do a spot like that?! Commercial break!
We come back to see Asuka fighting her way back, roundhouse kicks and driving knees. She goes up top but Nia intercepts her. Asuka with a sunset flip bomb attempt but she’s much too big so instead she kicks her leg out from under her to put her in a tree of woe, Double Stomp to the gut for a tight cover but it’s a 2 count. Asuka with roundhouse kicks to the chest, Nia blocks one and headbutts her in the face. Hoists her up, Samoan Drop! Cover but Asuka has a leg under the bottom rope and there’s the break. Nia is furious on her way up and she shoves the official! Ref slowly calls for the bell but Asuka rolls Nia up as he’s making his way over to the corner and he makes the fast count instead.
Winner: Asuka
Hokey. But compared to the rest of the show pretty sensible.
