Everyone is ecstatic to have New Japan Pro Wrestling back. The New Japan Cup is off to a great start, and fans are looking forward to seeing how it pans out leading into Dominion, which is a month away. The two night event will be the first shows with fans back in the arenas, with many big matches planned including the finals of the New Japan Cup, where the winner will be the next defense for Tetsuya Naito and his IWGP Intercontinental and Heavyweight Championships. With Wrestle Dynasty in the USA no longer possible, they have set up new shows in Japan to make up for this.
New Japan Pro Wrestling Announces Summer Struggle
“After Dominion, the action keeps coming, as NJPW steadily brings fans back to the venues!
On Monday July 20, New Japan Road hits Korakuen Hall, before we head to Nagoya on July 25. Sengoku Lord in Nagoya will return after hitting the New Japan schedule for the first time in 2019!
Next, action returns to Tokyo for Summer Struggle! Korakuen Hall will see this classic NJPW series return for some hot matches to say the least.”
Summer Struggle will be another two day event, taking place on July 27th and 31st.
The G1 Climax Will Likely Be Announced During These Events
While the New Japan Cup is a big tournament, the best is yet to come. The G1 Climax was always set for the fall this year, due to the now cancelled 2020 Olympics being held in Japan. Despite that being delayed until 2021, the G1 Climax will likely be handled in the fall, when they can have crowds back in fuller form. The grueling 18 night round robin tournament is used to see who will main event Wrestle Kingdom alongside the reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champion. Last years victor Kota Ibushi would go on to face Kazuchika Okada on Night One of Wrestle Kingdom 14, losing in a spectacular match.
There is also the issue of the Best Of Super Juniors tournament to attend too, with that being among the cancelled shows, and often relying on import talents from ROH, RPW & CMLL to fill out the brackets. With travel not being possible at this time, we could very well not see a 2020 edition of the legendary tournament. A smaller tournament could happen in the winter, setting up another title match for Wrestle Kingdom 15.
