Evolve Wrestling will go down in history as one of the better indy promotions of the 2010’s. While it never reached the insane heights of something like Pro Wrestling Guerilla, they would have some of the best matches around show after show. Many huge names passed through their doors, which might never be opened again.
Evolve Wrestling Goes In Indefinite Hiatus
The news was broken by PWTorch, who were contacted by an employee of Evolve Wrestling. They were told that the owner of Evolve, Gabe Sapolsky had messaged the talent of Evolve letting them know that no future events are scheduled at this time and that he would be deleting the Facebook group chat that was used for the roster to communicate and plan around shows. Sapolsky told the talent this was simply a fork in the road, and to stay in touch as things could be happening again soon.
The name Gabe Sapolsky will be familar to fans of Ring Of Honor, as he was one of the founders of that company, before leaving to start Evolve. He’s a fantastic booker, responsible for some of the best matches of the 2000’s being put together. Evolves main issue was losing the massive revenue source that was their Wrestlemania weekend shows, and are one of the first major casualities to come out of the COVID-19 pandemic. It takes money to keep the doors open, and they have had little to no income to pay their staff and talent when they are unable to run shows for such a long period of time.
Will They Be Bought Out By WWE
The writing has been on the walls for a while when it comes to the eventual fate of Evolve. They could become the true developmental system of WWE. Their relationship has been clear due to talent sharing, and WWE airing their 15th anniversary show on the WWE Network to great success. NXT was originally their developmental system, but has grown rapidly to something well beyond that. If bought by WWE, Evolve could serve as the first step after the WWE Performance Center for talent, a place to get some more experience working for a crowd.
Do you think that his hiatus is the end of Evolve and their talent will be seen popping up around the world of wrestling, or will WWE buy them out? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
