The relationship between Evolve & WWE has been hardly a secret in recent years. They would air a single Evolve event on the WWE Network early in 2019, and have sent talent from NXT down to Evolve for extra practice, something which benefitted people like The Street Profits. Now rumors are circulating again that WWE is set to buy everything Evolve has to offer, including their entire tape library.
Evolve Alumni Are All Through The WWE Roster
When it comes to Evolve, plenty of members of the WWE roster have history there. Men like Matt Riddle, Timothy Thatcher, Keith Lee, Austin Theory, Johnny Gargano, and even WWE Champion Drew McIntyre have had some classics within Evolve over the years. Others like Shotzi Blackheart, The Street Profits, WALTER, Jon Moxley, Fabian Aichner, Chris Hero, all of Undisputed Era ,and so many more can be found in the archieves of what was once a super-indy, something set to replace Ring Of Honor. Their tape library will be a huge assett to the WWE Network, with 146 events in their backlog.
A Casualty Of COVID-19 Shutdowns
It was no secret that Evolve was struggling financially, and having their Wrestlemania weekend shows cancelled was the final nail in the coffin. This could be something we see more and more of in the coming months. WWE are known for hoarding talent, but they could start a new hoard of content to put onto the WWE Network, especially with their new free tier. They need to dangle more than just classic content, and having some of the best indy content of the 2010’s would be great.
