WWE Expected To Buy Out Evolve Wrestling

When it comes to Evolve, plenty of members of the WWE roster have history there. Men like Matt Riddle, Timothy Thatcher, Keith Lee, Austin Theory, Johnny Gargano, and even WWE Champion Drew McIntyre have had some classics within Evolve over the years. Others like Shotzi Blackheart, The Street Profits, WALTER, Jon Moxley, Fabian Aichner, Chris Hero, all of Undisputed Era ,and so many more can be found in the archieves of what was once a super-indy, something set to replace Ring Of Honor. Their tape library will be a huge assett to the WWE Network, with 146 events in their backlog.

A Casualty Of COVID-19 Shutdowns

It was no secret that Evolve was struggling financially, and having their Wrestlemania weekend shows cancelled was the final nail in the coffin. This could be something we see more and more of in the coming months. WWE are known for hoarding talent, but they could start a new hoard of content to put onto the WWE Network, especially with their new free tier. They need to dangle more than just classic content, and having some of the best indy content of the 2010’s would be great.

If WWE does buy Evolve, we could see the brand live on as a developlemental territory for NXT. With NXT being the third brand of WWE now, Evolve could be used to give the Performance Center talent a chance to work infront of crowds and be watched at home. This was already becoming it’s role, it’s been a feeder promotion for years now, and it will now be fully official if this deal goes through.
