With the 2020 New Japan Cup coming down former five-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion and two-time New Japan Cup-winning (2013, 2019) CHAOS member Kazuchika Okada and the Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member Evil — the rest of the New Japan Cup finals event in a one-third capacity Osaka Jo Hall in Osaka, Japan will see the rest of the roster vying for title contention outside of the IWGP Intercontinental and IWGP Heavyweight ‘Double Championship.’

Great Bash Heel (GBH) the former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship team of former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma face the New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) Noge Dojo rival team of Yuya Uemura/Yota Tsuji meet in the first match of the event.
GBH looks to make a mark in the tag team division while half of the NJPW roster is unable to travel to Japan for matches at present, while the rival Young Lion team will look to co-exist and gain needed experience as they continue their development.

The team of TenCozy (Satoshi Kojima/Hiroyoshi Tenzan) have won the NWA World Tag Team Championship and had six reigns as the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship together during their careers — along with Kojima being a former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, two-time Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion (AJPW), and two-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion. Tenzan has been a former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion and four-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion.
Their opponents of NJPW LA Dojo Young Lion Gabriel Kidd and former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion (w/Minoru Tanaka), five-time NEVER Openweight Champion, former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champion, and two-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion Hirooki Goto are at a disadvantage due to Kidd’s inexperience but will test their veteran adversaries who are attempting to fight their way back into IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team title contention much like GBH.
