Hello and welcome to another WWE Smackdown Results and Recap!
We start off with Jeff Hardy promising to beat “the holy hell out of Sheamus.”
Sheamus promised much the same, except Jeff will be wallowing on the bar floor with a headache from the Brogue Kick.
JBL was next and said he’d save his predictions for later, but promised the Bar Fight would be a great one.
We headed to the ring where Sasha Banks and Bayley came out.
A brief recap of Banks’ “victory” against Asuka at Extreme Rules, they then started talking about what greatness means.
Banks ran off the dictionary meaning, and Bayley said that the old version. The new version is them, and a graphic was shown of Banks and Bayley with their picture and the caption “The quality or state of being great” appeared.
The pointed out how they said they’d get all the gold, and they did.
Banks said the women’s evolution is over. “It started with us, and ended with us.”
Bayley then aired in a new era of greatness. “The era of Sasha Banks and Bayley!” She then added, “No matter how hard you try, you’ll never be as great as us.”
Nikki Cross then came out with Alexa Bliss. Cross called them out and informed them their reign was over.
Bliss tried to talk Cross down, but she wasn’t interesting in listening and demanded a rematch for WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship.
After hem-hawing, Bayley said she could have a rematch if Cross could beat a worthy adversary and former champion… Alexa Bliss. The winner can face Bayley next week.
Cross shoved Bliss down, saying “We have to do this.” And headed for the ring. Guess what’s next?
Alexa Bliss vs. Nikki Cross
As we returned from commercial, Bayley and Banks had joined the announce team.
Cross and Bliss tied up and they exchanged arm bars.
They exchanged rollup attempts, then locked up again, exchanging holds and Cross became more frustrated as the match continued.
It’s obvious Bliss was trying not to hurt Cross, but could Cross say the same?
After Bliss dodged Cross’ charge into the corner, Cross caught Bliss’ slap and took it personally that she tried to hit her.
That pushed Cross over the edge, and she quickly brutalized Bliss before hitting a bulldog for a near pinfall.
Bliss cam back with a dropkick that sent Cross out of the ring, then she caught Bliss in the ring apron. But Bliss countered her attack by kicking from under the apron.
Once free, Bayley and Banks were cheering for them to hit each other, so Bliss and Cross double clotheslined them as we headed to commercial.
Bliss turns it on
Back from commercial, Cross and Bliss were duking it out on the ring apron — Bliss in and Cross outside the ring.
After knocking Cross to the floor, she got back in the ring but Bliss was in control after she locked Cross in an armbar.
Bliss then kicked Cross in her injured ribs a couple of times, then hit with a double knee drop before Cross rolled out of the ring.
Bliss followed her out and threw Cross against the barrier, but Criss beat the count and rolled back into the ring.
Another kick and a pair of double knees led to another pin attempt, but Cross kicked out.
Bliss locked her in a wrist lock while pressing on Cross’ ribs with her knee, but Cross didn’t submit.
Cross rolled out of the hold, then hit with a jawbreaker and forearms to Bliss to regain her momentum.
Cross tried to his with a tornado DDT, but Bliss pushed her off, then hit with a sunset flip/powerbomb for a near fall.
Bliss climbed to the top rope, but cross caught her and attempted to hit with a superplex.
Cross reversed a waistlock and hit with a reverse DDT but Bliss kicked out.
Cross then missed with a crossbody from the top rope, and after the referee check if she could continue, Cross pinned Bliss with a small package to face Bayley on next week’s WWE Smackdown.
This was an awesome match to start WWE Smackdown Recap and Results off. It was a mix of old and new school and will be difficult to follow.
