This feels wrong for WWE Smackdown with SummerSlam only a couple of days away, so we’re calling it a no contest or disqualification before they take the ring.
AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy have the capability to give us the match of the year, so we think the real match will happen at Payback next week.
To be honest, this would’ve been a far better fit for SummerSlam, but for one reason or another the scheduling didn’t work out for that, and having them face this Sunday feels rushed.
With that being said, Payback feels like the best choice for this to allow the feud to breathe, but we’re not expecting that and think something more will happen with the two of them.
Retribution interference?
Since this a championship match, we wouldn’t be surprised if Retribution pops up and interrupts the match to show they can’t be stopped.
Since they love picking on Smackdown’s wrestlers, probably so both shows appear unique, this would make sense.
They’d run in and cause some mayhem, then take off and leave the bodies and carnage in their wake.
Of course, we can’t forget that Styles appeared with Joseph Park (Abyss) last week, so if Retribution doesn’t interfere, maybe he’ll play a part in this?
This will leave open the opportunity for a rematch at SummerSlam, allowing the WWE to correct any timing issues they may have had.
Asuka’s mind games
With Asuka set to face both Bayley and Sasha Banks at SummerSlam for both brands’ championships, we expect some excitement, but not a straight up match.
Asuka has been the victim of mind games and been tormented by the Golden Role Models for weeks, and we think it’s going to take a turn in her favor on WWE Smackdown.
While both are afraid of her, Bayley has also said she intends to do everything she can to wear Asuka down so Banks will be safe.
So, we expect Asuka to play some mind games and separate the two and attack each while they’re alone, doing as much damage as possible before taking off.
It’ll be a change of pace for the Empress of Tomorrow, but it’s also smart and something we can see her doing to finally beat one or both of the women that have dominated WWE’s women’s division.
Despite the fact Bayley and Banks deserve this, it’ll be fun to watch them eat a huge dose of their own medicine as Asuka hunts them down and takes her pound of flesh.
