Earlier in the show, the new NXT Champion Karrion Kross would have to let the championship go due to a separated shoulder, not even a week after his victory. This puts the championships status in the air, but William Regal, Triple H, Matt Bloom and Shawn Michaels already have something planned on what to do next with the championship. William Regal would hit the ring, and explain the plan to everyone.
William Regal Announces A Huge Game Changing Match For Next Week’s NXT
He’d start by recapping the result of Takeover, applauding Kross for fighting through injury to still win the championship. Kross handled the decision to give the title up well, and Regal wishes him the best. However, we need a new champion.
Next week, on a special Tuesday episode of NXT, four former NXT Champions would compete to name a new champion in a four way match. Any one of them could claim to be the best in NXT’s history. First is Johnny Gargano, the first triple crown champion in NXT. Second is Tommaso Ciampa, who just returned in a flurry, more aggressive than ever. Third is Finn Balor, who was once the longest reigning champion in NXT history. Finally, we have Adam Cole, who reigned for almost two years before being shut down by Keith Lee at Great American Bash.
However, this isn’t just a Fatal Four Way match. It’s going to be a four way sixty minute ironman match. Whoever has the most points after an hour will be the man worthy of being champion once again. This is going to be one of the best matches in NXT history, and Wade Barrett who was on commentary for tonight insists on sticking around for another week to see that one in person.
Who Will Be The Next NXT Champion?
This is basically an all-star match of NXT using whoever is around. You obviously can’t have champions like Neville or Seth Rollins involved, but Gargano vs. Cole vs. Ciampa vs. Balor is massive. Any of these men will make better champions than what was expected from Kross.
Gargano is the only one who didn’t get a satisfying reign, having lost in his first defense to Adam Cole. Cole just got off a long run on top, with people not keen on seeing that repeated. Ciampa never lost his title, having to give it up due to injury much like Kross. Balor only returned to NXT back in 2019, but was the best champion of his time, a reign that only suffered due to mainly feuding with Samoa Joe.
