While fans thought NXT’s lead commentator, Mauro Ranallo, was just taking another stint of time off from the brand, that is not the case. For the past few weeks, there have been other men filling his role such as Corey Graves & the returning Wade Barrett. This was only set to be while Ranallo dealt with some family issues up in Canada, but it has now been confirmed that Ranallo has once again left WWE.
Ranallo Previously Left WWE Due To Backstage Bullying
He previously left WWE after being bullied by JBL during his time on Smackdown, only to be brought back by Triple H to call NXT exclusively. Ranallo has always been open about his struggles with mental health, even being called The Bipolar Rock n’ Roller in the past. That was what caused JBL’s comments to have him leave WWE.
The reasons he is leaving this time around are also due to his mental health issues, but it’s on much better terms this time around.
Mauro Ranallo Is Leaving WWE To Focus On Other Projects
In a comment to his facebook page, Mauro would give a comment on his leaving of WWE.
“I appreciate the opportunity I had to realize my childhood dream of working in sports entertainment, and I wish WWE well in the future. Now I want to direct my focus and devote my time to my other projects, and to my mental health charitable activities and the well-being of my mother and myself.”
NXT won’t be the same without Ranallo, but it’s hard to not understand his reasoning here. He’s given a lot to wrestling as a whole, and it’s time for him to focus on himself. Ranallo has always been an advocate for mental health awareness, and now he simply has more time to do exactly that.
At this time he is still set to do commentary for Bellator MMA events as well as boxing shows, something he did alongside his WWE run. It would have been nice for him to end his NXT career calling the biggest match in the brand’s history, but it’s not good to focus on what will never be. We can now expect Wade Barrett to fill his role full time.
