Last night, fans saw something they never wanted or expected to see happen in WWE. This was the breakup of former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, Peyton Royce & Billie Kay, better known as The Iconics. They would lose a match to Liv Morgan & Ruby Riot, which stated that the losers would be forced to break up.
Going one step further, their friendship would seemingly be over as well. Peyton Royce would throw Billie Kay into the RAW Underground ring to be attacked by Jessmyn Duke, one of the four horsewomen of MMA. This random betrayal all but shut the door on their friendship, and while Kay might flounder, this could be the start of something big for Peyton Royce as a singles star.
Vince McMahon Is Reportedly High On Peyton Royce
Coming from a report from a few weeks back, Vince McMahon himself is apparently a huge fan of Peyton Royce and sees her as a future RAW Women’s Champion. He also praised Bianca Belair in a similar light. Royce winning a recent bodybuilding contest certainly didn’t hurt her case as a future champion, and likely won her some extra points in the eyes of the boss.
With Asuka now free from her feud with Bayley & Sasha Banks, and once again the RAW Women’s Champion, Royce is a strong contender for a future title shot. Natalya, Mickie James & Lana all just entered the title picture for the moment, but who knows how long that storyline will last.
Royce has the skills to make a singles run work, having been trained by Lance Storm. She is easily the better wrestler from the Iconics, and also has a great look and tons of charisma. Billie Kay has always been more awkward in the ring, but was the more humorous half of the duo which made up for it, providing balance.
What About Billie Kay?
While WWE could have kept her alongside Peyton Royce as a manager, it seems like their partnership is done. Kay will likely lose a short feud to Royce over the next month, and then be drafted to another brand come October. She might find success as a singles act on Smackdown, or be paired with Indi Hartwell of NXT as she tries to make a new best friend to chase tag team success with.
It’s a shame WWE would flush another popular act down the drain, with this feeling a lot like the breakup of Rusev Day. Peyton Royce better go on to win the RAW Women’s Championship, or The Iconics will have died for nothing.
Are WWE fools for having broken up The Iconics? Could this be the moment that boosts Royce into stardom? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
