With the NXT UK restart right around the corner, WWE is getting everyone caught back up on what is happening with the brand, starting with WALTER & his next challenger for the NXT UK Championship. During an episode going over this, fans would get to see a long awaited match for the first time. This is WALTER facing fellow heavyweight Ridge Holland, who recently made his NXT debut in the build to NXT Takeover XXX.
While this wasn’t Big Show vs. Great Khali levels of mass, you can’t deny WALTER & Ridge Holland are big men. These are two heavyweight brawlers, and while Holland was dropping men left and right, he’d face a serious challenge in the form of WALTER. Getting to see WALTER wrestle is a special affair, usually reserved for NXT UK Takeover events, and those are often title matches. Who would win this epic encounter?
Big Lads Wrestling!
This match would start with a hard lockup, WALTER getting Holland in the corner. Holland would barely dodge a chop from WALTER, and come back with some forearms. You don’t want to get into a striking battle with WALTER, and he’d come back with some European Uppercuts and a headlock.
WALTER would be shoved to the ropes, and he’d come back with a shoulder tackle. What would follow is these two men crashing into each other, until Holland got WALTER up for a big scoop slam, manhandling the champion. WALTER would slip out of the ring, and Holland came after him.
This was a huge mistake, as he’d take a signature chop and be backdropped onto the apron. Another chop followed by a chinlock would punish Holland, but he wouldn’t stay down. A test of strength would suit WALTER, who’d bend Holland down and stomp on the neck, before cranking the arms, taking away some power.
Ridge Holland Shows Potential
Holland would try to fight back, but the upstart was showing that he’s outgunned against WALTER, being slammed into the mat and toyed with. The Ring General earned that name, but Holland kept fighting as chops made his chest look like ground beef. He’d dodge and hit some lariats, finally downing WALTER with a big one.
Holland would hit a back body drop, before getting chopped in the face and trapped in the sleepe. WALTER would find himself in a torture rack, but Holland couldn’t hold him up after the attack on the arm, instead losing the hold but hitting a belly to belly suplex.
Holland would take a big running dropkick from the champion, and almost be hit with the powerbomb. WALTER would be countered into position for Hollands signature Alabama Slam, thankfully getting to the corner before being simply powerbombed into the mat. Holland would set up the Northern Grit Driver, but WALTER kicks out at two.
Don’t Get WALTER Mad
WALTER still had a lot left in the tank, and would get the uranage, planting his opponent into the mat. The champion was getting mad, and would pummel him with forearms on the apron, seeking to cave the chest in. Holland would counter one of these strikes and catch the arm, and turn this move around on WALTER.
Imperium member Alexander Wolfe would run a quick distraction. Holland would take him out, come into the ring to a boot to the face, and one lariat dropped him. This was the first time WALTER has needed help to win a singles match, something done to push just how good Holland is.
