G1 Climax 30 Night 13 saw current Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay face Suzuki-Gun member Taichi in an A Block match Taichi needed to win to keep his G1 Climax 30 Finals hopes alive.
Ospreay was coming off a victory against current NEVER Openweight Champion and Suzuki-Gun leader Minoru Suzuki during G1 Climax 30 Night 11. Ospreay had his arm worked over heavily in the match and was a point of interest coming in.
Taichi was unable to defeat former IWGP Heavyweight Champion and Bullet Club member “Switchblade” Jay White during the same night, leaving him at 6 points.
With Ospreay sitting at 8 points, he had the opportunity to put himself in a great position to qualify for the tournament finals. Taichi came with form, but he didn’t focus on Ospreay’s weakened arm.
In a highly competitive match, Taichi showed that he could be a legitimate contender for singles titles with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), being far advanced from his two V0 (no successful defenses) NEVER Openweight Championship reigns.
Yet, Ospreay showed that he can reach deep and pull out offense when he needs to close a match with authority.
Ospreay was able to gain the fall at the 16 minutes and 26 seconds mark with his Stormbreaker technique to move him to 10 points in the block. His final two block matches are against former NEVER Openweight Champion Jeff Cobb (October 13th) and fellow CHAOS member and five-time former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada (October 16th).
Taichi faces former NEVER Openweight Champion and Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member Shingo Takagi (October 13th) and former two-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion Kota Ibushi (October 16th). Tachi securing a victory over Ibushi could spoil the tournament for the G1 Climax 29 winner.
Ospreay will likely need to win out to win the A Block, and his match against Okada on the final day of A Block action looms large.
