Six Singles Matches Announced For NJPW Power Struggle 2020

There is just one major stop between us and the huge double tournament that is Best of Super Juniors & World Tag League. That is Power Struggle, which might as well be called ‘G1 Climax Fallout”. We have six big singles matches already announced, six of which with title implications. Let’s break down what we will see on November 7th.

Zack Sabre Jr. Wants To Be King Of Pro Wrestling 2020

As the best wrestler in NJPW, it only makes sense that Zack Sabre Jr. would want the trophy that proclaims him as King Of Pro Wrestling. This is held by Toru Yano, who won a Fatal Four Way at Jingu Stadium to win the trophy. Sabre defeated Yano during the G1 and punished him again after a tag team match on the final night, making his intentions very clear. This trophy is always to be defended in matches with special rules, which have not yet been announced by Yano, who surely has something up his sleeve.

Minoru Suzuki vs. Shingo Takagi III At Power Struggle

In what will round out the best trilogy of matches we will see in 2020, Minoru Suzuki and Shingo Takagi will clash again. They tied at 1-1 after the G1 Climax, and spent a tag team match on the final night brawling, these lingering issues needing to be sorted out in the ring. It is going to be a hard hitting match, and Shingo Takagi has wanted to fight until one man needs to be sent to the hospital, so you know this one is gonna even hurt to watch.

Kazuchika Okada Faces The Great O-Khan In His Singles Return Match

On the final day of A-Block, Will Ospreay finally beat Kazuchika Okada in a singles match, ending a 4 match losing streak to The Rainmaker. This was mainly due to the interference of The Great O-Khan & Bea Priestly, the first recruits of The Empire. Okada is rightfully furious, but first needs to get through O-Khan, who has only lost one match in two years in the UK, and no singles matches. The Dominator is now back where he started in NJPW, and this former Young Lion standout has a chance to continue his winning streak against The Rainmaker.

Hiroshi Tanahashi Battles KENTA For The IWGP US Match Contract

While it’s not a championship, the briefcase KENTA carries might as well make him the Interim United States Champion, while Jon Moxley is busy elsewhere. Due to this, like other championships it must be defended after a loss in the G1, and Tanahashi did just that, even if he was hit in the head with the briefcase during that match. Tanahashi had a bad tournament, but regained confidence near the end with a big win over ZSJ, and now wants to get back to a championship level, with only one path there. Tanahashi vs. Moxley could be a great match, maybe even better than KENTA vs. Moxley…

Jay White Gets Another Chance To Reach Wrestle Kingdom

Jay White’s loss to Tomohiro Ishii on the final day of A-Block ensured he didn’t get into the finals, despite ending with 12 points. He got many wins over the course of the tournament, including the eventual winner Kota Ibushi! White proved he’s better than the man who was able to win it all, and therefore gets a chance to do it again. If he wins at Power Struggle, he goes to Wrestle Kingdom, but Ibushi is on the best run of his career, and White will need to do everything in his power to stop him.

EVIl & Tetsuya Naito Match Up Again At Power Struggle

For the fourth time this year, we will see EVIL face Tetsuya Naito. They’ve traded the IWGP Double Championships between Dominion & Summer Struggle, and EVIL beat Naito again in the G1 Climax. That win gets him a chance to walk into Wrestle Kingdom with the IWGP Heavyweight & Intercontinental Championships, and just needs to beat Naito for a third time this year to do it. Their chemistry has steadily gotten better, but fans are starting to tire of this matchup. Will they pull out something special at Power Struggle?

What match are you most excited for at Power Struggle?Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
