WWE NXT Preview For 12/30/2020 [NXT End Of Year Awards, Johnny Gargano vs. Leon Ruff III]

As we inch ever closer to New Year’s Evil, it’s time for the final episode of NXT of 2020. Not many matches have been announced, but it’s time for the annual Year End Awards! Throughout the night we can expect to see the winners of awards such as Event of the Year, Breakout Star of the Year, and more. In addition, two very compelling matches are signed, so let’s break those down here.

Leon Ruff Gets His NXT North American Championship Rematch With Johnny Gargano

Speaking of Breakout Star of the Year, one of the men who might walk away with that trophy has a chance at gold again. Leon Ruff made his proper debut for NXT not too long ago, and was able to shock the world by beating Johnny Gargano for the NXT North American Championship.

This underdog quickly proved he was not to be taken lightly, and had a star making performance in the triple threat match at NXT Takeover: WarGames. Gargano regained the championship that night thanks to Austin Theory, but now has to prove he can finally defend it. Ruff has a chance to start 2021 with gold around his waist again.

Roderick Strong & Pete Dunne Have Had Issues For Years

All the way back in 2018, Pete Dunne & Roderick Strong were a promising tag team. They had reached the finals of the Dusty Rhodes tag team classic, and there was a triple threat match for the NXT Tag Team Championships. Roderick Strong was pivotal to the finish of that match, turning on Pete Dunne to join Undisputed Era. Earlier this year, Kyle O’Reilly made the mistake of thinking Dunne had forgotten about this, only to take a chair to the back.

WarGames came and went with Undisputed Era winning, but Dunne isn’t done yet. Tonight, he looks to end 2020 by putting Strong down once and for all, as they meet in a good ol’ fashioned grudge match.
