Roderick Strong & Pete Dunne have an interesting history. They originally came together in 2018 for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, and made the finals only for Strong to abandon Dunne and become the fourth member of Undisputed Era.
That issue was renewed this year as Dunne joined forces with Pat McAfee for WarGames. Tonight on NXT, Strong & Dunne sort their issues out in the ring, looking to end 2020 with a hard hitting fight.
Roderick Strong’s First Singles Match In Six Months
As soon as the bell rang, Strong took Dunne to the mat and started the beatdown. Dunne got back up and fought back with some quick kicks, but Strong came back just as quick with a lariat.
Strong was able to have a slight advantage, despite not having a singles match in months. He sent Dunne off the ropes and nailed a picture perfect dropkick, before throwing chops in the corner.
Dunne was able to counter a chop and grab a limb, able to easily wrestle Strong to the mat, and get some joint manipulation with the fingers. Strong would counter out by sending Dunne onto the ropes, but would then be launched over the rope to the outside by the powerful legs of Dunne.
Back in the ring, Dunne took his first backbreaker of the match and was kicked over the barricade, as we went to a break. Throughout picture and picture, they went back and forth, with Strong going for a superplex but being sent to the mat and having his hands stomped.
Coming back from the break, Dunne & Strong traded blows in the middle of the ring, but Dunne threw Strong right into the corner chest first. He’d apply the Rings of Saturn, but also attack the mouth and ear of Strong, who had to knee his way free.
Pete Dunne Gets The Late Edge
Dunne was fought off with chops before being caught with a dropkick right under the jaw. Strong hit the slam and nailed a running knee in the corner. Dunne was hit with a flurry of elbow strikes and an Angle Slam for a two count.
Strong missed a dropkick through the ropes after Dunne slipped outside, and was thrown right into the steel steps. Dunne wanted Bitter End on the outside, but Strong countered and used the apron for a backbreaker. When Strong wanted another backbreaker, Dunne countered into a triangle choke, which was countered into a backbreaker.
Strong tried to End of Heartache, but Dunne rolled him up and tried to stomp his head in. Dunne was countered and almost ended up in the Stronghold, but resisted the hold and snapped the fingers of Strong. One Bitter End later, and Pete Dunne gets the win.
