Celebrities aren’t unusual to see pop up in WWE, having always had a prescence in the company, dating all the way back to the original Wrestlemania. They’ve showed up as hosts, gotten into the ring, and more. We’ve seen Drew Carey, Steven Amell, and more step into the ring, but could 51 year old actor Matthew McConaughey be the next one up?
Matthew McConaughey Is Very Interested In Working With WWE
While on the Better Together podcast hosted by Maria Menounos, McConaughey would mention being interested in working with WWE. “I’ll say not too much ‘cause you know, can’t say too much about these things. But it is something that interests me.” is what has fans speculating that a WWE debut could be in the works for McConaughey.
Not Actually That Shocking
While this feels like it’s coming out of left field, it makes sense when you realize McConaughey is a very avid fan. He was seen cheering on Drew McIntyre on a WWE Thunderdome screen last October as he faced The Miz, and has been backstage at numerous shows. McConaughey is from Texas and grew up around WCCW and the Houston territories, something that would make anyone a lifetime fan.
During the same interview with Menounos, he’d mention he watches wrestling with his three kids who love it as well.
“I love the suspension and disbelief, ’cause my kids and I watch it,” he shared. “And they’re starting to get that when they go, ‘Oh this is fake.’ I’m going, ‘What are you talking about? No way!’ Because I won’t give them the wink yet, but they’re starting to get that in there, there’s a bit of one, ya know? Two of them are like, ‘this isn’t fake, it’s real!’”
We wouldn’t see McConaughey win any championships, but he’s got a clear passion for the sport, and that makes for great moments. If McConaughey steps into the ring, who would you want to see as his opponent? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
