When Aleister Black & Ricochet left NXT to join the WWE main roster, people were optimistic. They came up together as an odd couple tag team, having just won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. After competing for the NXT, Smackdown and RAW Tag Team Championships, they hung out as a tag team before splitting up.
These are two insanely talented wrestlers, both who could easily exist in the main event to upper-midcard, or at least that was the hope. Ricochet these days is a punching bag for Retribution, and Aleister Black has been off TV for months now. As WWE lacks tag teams on all brands, is it time to put these two back together?
Aleister Black Wanted To Go Back To NXT, and Ricochet Would Thrive There Too
With both men hardly being used on RAW & Smackdown, it could be time to move them back to where they got their starts in WWE. Black requested to be moved back to NXT a few months ago, but was denied, but having Ricochet & Black there would help their lacking tag team division, as well as giving NXT Champion Finn Balor two credible challengers.
Balor is proof that returning to NXT can kickstart change in a career, and even Lucha House Party got new life by just showing up down in NXT! Now imagine what that could do for another former NXT Champion, and a former NXT North American Champion? It could help them regain their hype, and remind Vince McMahon why he hired them in the first place.
Ricochet Is Signed With WWE Until 2024
While the contract status of Black is unclear at this time, and he could very well be riding out the last few months of his contract, we know that Ricochet is in WWE until 2024. He signed a five year deal back in 2019, right when WWE was concerned about folks jumping ship to AEW after a two year deal with them.
If Ricochet keeps up his current pace until 2024, he will have zero hype when his contract ends. Meanwhile, when he was signed as one of the top free agents on the globe. A move to NXT might just be a matter of ‘if’ instead of ‘when’ with Ricochet, where he’d likely be built back until into a top star. Moving him down alongside Black into the tag team division would be a perfect start.
