Jeet Rama is a name that fans who frequent NXT House Shows should recognize. He’s been on those shows for almost five years, but never got a televised match until now. Better late than never, and how many people get to make their TV debuts against former WWE Champion AJ Styles? This could be his sink or swim moment. Rama is an accomplished amateur wrestler in India, having won just about every accolade possible.
Jeet Rama Can Out Wrestle AJ Styles
Styles was outsized by Rama, and shoved into the corner on the first lockup. Rama would break a headlock from Styles, quickly taking him down onto the mat with an armbar, showing his prowess. Styles was able to regain control with some shoulder tackles in the corner, before throwing some kicks. Rama would catch a kick and drive Styles into the corner for some shoulder tackles of his own.
Styles was flung to the mat with a throw, and had his left arm trapped once again. A rake to the eyes would get Styles free briefly, and he was able to defend himself by throwing Rama to the outside and hitting a vaulting Phenomenal Forearm as we went to a commercial break.
Omos Is The Difference Maker
Coming back from the break, Styles has Rama in a side headlock. Rama tried to fight back to his feet, and got some big right hands. A head & arm suplex sent Styles for a ride, and another was close behind. Rama was getting his stride, before Styles tried to kick him down. A German Suplex would have gotten the pin, but Styles got his foot on the ropes.
Styles lured Rama in by going to the top rope, and while Rama climbed up, he was yanked down. A drop toehold into the corner was followed by the Ushigoroshi for a near fall. Styles Clash was telegraphed, and Rama countered by driving Styles into the corner, only to end up in the Calf Crusher! Rama was able to use his long limbs to grab the head of Styles to break the hold, but the damage was done.
Back to his feet, Rama nailed a Belly to Belly suplex, before setting Styles up on the top rope. Before the superplex would happen, Styles enforcer Omos grabbed his tights to keep him up top as Rama fell. One Phenomenal Forearm later, and this one was done.
While Rama isn’t a star yet, the raw skill is there. He just needs more TV time and matches to work out the pacing. Styles helped keep this one on pace, and made Rama look like a star in this debut match. Needing outside help to beat Rama was a smart move, as he’s a likely top champion when NXT India comes.
