Boxing News: Bout For Vacant IBF World Featherweight Title Agreed

The featherweight division was plunged into disarray earlier in the year, after Josh Warrington made the decision to vacate the belt. Warrington had held the title since May 2018 after winning the IBF prize at Elland Road against Lee Selby. He retained the title on three occasions, but decided to vacate the gold to set up a fight against Mauricio Lara, which takes place this Saturday night.

However, one of the challengers that he beat in one of his defences looks set to compete for the vacant prize over the coming months, as Kid Galahad could square off against Jazza Dickens.

Boxing News: All British Contest For Vacant Prize

An official announcement surrounding a bout for the IBF featherweight title looks to be close, as MTK Global announced over the weekend that they had won the rights for the event. It is believed that the fight will see Galahad get a second shot at the featherweight title, as he was beaten by Warrington for the gold back in June 2019. That split decision defeat remains the only defeat on his professional record, which highlights that he still has the credentials to be a world champion.

Galahad has only fought once since that defeat against Warrington, as he returned to ring exactly 12 months ago in February 2020, as he beat Claudio Marrero. Galahad has won 16 of his 27 victories by knockout, with a further eleven wins coming by decision. It would certainly be a fight to catch the imagination should he come up against Dickens, as two clashed back in September 2013 for the European super-bantamweight title.

Dickens was beaten by TKO when the two fighters last clashed, as Galahad claimed the win in a tenth round stoppage. Since that defeat, he has been able to piece together his form though, and has been in excellent form over recent years. His last fight came against Ryan Walsh, who he beat by unanimous decision to win the Golden Contract.

The victory also ensured that he retained the WBO European featherweight title. Last year was a significant one in his career, as he also beat Leigh Wood by majority decision in February to win the WBO title. He has won 30 of his professional fights, with three defeats to date. Eleven wins have come by knockout, while he has won by decision on 19 occasions.
