There was an unlikely faction break up on Raw on Monday night, as The Hurt Business self-imploded leaving the group in tatters. It was an unexpected turn close to WrestleMania that not many could have seen coming, but it left Bobby Lashley searching for a new teammate.
That led him to Baron Corbin, who attacked Drew McIntyre towards the end of the show. The break-up of the hottest faction in WWE right now is a strange creative decision, but what could it mean for Lashley and the rest of the group going forward?
WWE News: Lashley Forced To Go Alone
The biggest factor that could come from the break-up is the fact that Lashley may not have to go into Mania alone without the help of his teammate. Lashley is certainly one of the most dominant superstars on the roster, which means that a straight fight between himself and McIntyre isn’t likely to be one that he shies away from.
However, being the heel that he is, it would have made more sense for Lashley to have help just to add the insurance he needs to keep hold of his title. Corbin’s appearance on Raw does make things slightly more muddled, as the SmackDown superstar could be the one to help him. However, if that was the route that the WWE were going down where there will be a screwy finish at Mania, then it would have made more sense keeping the faction together given the stellar work that they have done together over the previous year.
WWE News: Is It A Ploy?
There does seem to be a glimmer of hope that the Hurt Business aren’t done just yet, as the fall out could have been a game plan from MVP himself to make McIntyre believe that he has the upperhand. That could force the former WWE Champion to plead for a stipulation to be put on their match at Mania, which could ultimately come back to bite him.
The break-up seemed like a very underwhelming end to what had been a dominant faction that has carried the flagship show throughout the current era. It does seem too good to be true that they are done for good, and we for one, will still be holding out hope that MVP re-enlists the help of Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander further down the line as we get closer to the biggest show of the year.
