There is some hype surrounding Impact Wrestling at the moment, due to a match that is getting rave reviews from the wrestlers and crew. Impact Wrestling uses a taped format, batch taping weeks of TV, which sometimes leads to them being eager to show a match off. The latest case involves the X-Division Champion Josh Alexander, and a rumored one hour defense.
Hyped As One Of The Greatest Professional Wrestling Matches Ever
This news came first from Impact’s own ring announcer Dave Penzer, who took to Twitter to say the following. “So this weekend I saw one of, if not the, greatest pro wrestling match in my 44 years of watching wrestling. Can’t wait for you to see it soon!” This is nothing new from Penzer, who is always hyping up what happens during the tapings.
However following this, Fightful dug deeper and would report more information through Fightful Select. It was revealed to be a nearly one hour defense of the X-Division Championship. We don’t know who will be involved aside from Josh Alexander, who is the current champion. But Impact Wrestling has many options.
Who Will Join Josh Alexander For This Match?
When it comes to figuring out who could be in this match, you have to first consider the length. Veteran names like James Storm or Tommy Dreamer lack the gas tank to go that long, and even someone like Rich Swann showed that he couldn’t handle going into deep waters with Kenny Omega.
Chris Sabin is a potential option, having previously worked tournaments like Best Of The Super Juniors for New Japan Pro Wrestling, showing his stamina. Another Chris in Chris Bey is a strong option, being viewed as one of the best young names in Impact. Likewise names like Trey Miguel, Ace Austin, and other young names need to be considered.
However, due to the length we have to imagine this might be a triple threat or fatal four way. Any number of names could be involved then, and a well done multi-man match gave Impact Wrestling their best ever with AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe vs. Christopher Daniels.
The only match that could go this deep one on one would be something like Shingo Takagi coming over to Impact to give fans a dream match. The forbidden door doesn’t exist with Impact, after all.
