Right now, All Elite Wrestling is making some major moves when it comes to their TV deals in the United States. They’re moving from TNT to TBS, and adding another weekly show to their menu. However, they’ve mostly focused on that market. In Canada, they’re easily found on TSN, but the rest of the world is a bit spotty. Fite TV has been covering gaps for the moment, but they might be on the verge of breaking into another major market thanks to Sony Pictures Network India.
AEW Coming To India Through Sony?
Sony Pictures Network India is a secret titan in the wrestling world as of late. They currently have the streaming rights to both Impact Wrestling & WWE within India, and are now teasing adding AEW as well. When asked on Twitter by a fan if they would bring AEW to India, the official Sony Sports India account would respond. They’d say there is an official update releasing soon.
AEW has been hoping for a deal in the region for a long time, with Tony Shciavone saying the following back in September 2020. “India is a huge market and we have been receiving a lot of comments, tweets, and emails from fans there, wondering when Dynamite will land on their TV screens.” before mentioning a deal is in the works.
One Of The Biggest Markets In Wrestling
Considering how major of a market India is for professional wrestling, with WWE intending to open their third WWE Performance Center in the region very soon, this would be a smart move for AEW. It would mean that AEW, WWE, and Impact Wrestling would share a channel in the region, making it a one stop shop for most of the major promotions running today, only really missing NJPW & Ring of Honor.
Any time more fans get easy access to something like professional wrestling is great. Fans will always find a way to watch a match if they look hard enough, and by making deals like this, a company AEW is leaving less money on the table to priracy. It’s a situation where everyone wins, and could give another opening for up and coming Indian wrestlers who look to break into the industry.
