At NXT Takeover: In Your House, Raquel Gonzalez made her second successful defense of the NXT Women’s Championship when she took down Ember Moon. Now, she sets her sights back on the goal of being a double champion, and with Dakota Kai she’s determined to regain the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships. Tonight they look to get back on track with this, as they take on the high speed duo of Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter.

Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter Keep Gonzalez Guessing

Samoa Joe would have to help hold Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon back as Gonzalez & Kai made their way past them to the ring. Carter & Catanzaro most recently lost a feud to Xia Li, but want to get back on track. Kai started with Carter, but Catanzaro wasn’t gonna wait to get involved. Quick tags and tag team offense would pick Kai apart, but they couldn’t keep Gonzalez out of the ring.

Gonzalez instantly took the fight to Carter, but Carter kept moving and applied an octopus hold before hitting a dropkick into the corner. Catanzaro would tag in and trip Gonzalez up, using her speed to keep Gonzalez guessing. Kai tagged in and was taken outside, before Catanzaro hit a twisting splash over the top rope. Carter tagged in and threw herself onto her opponents, as we went to a commercial break.

Back from the break, Gonzalez had regained control with a backbreaker hold in the middle of the ring on Catanzaro. Catanzaro got a knee strike to the jaw, and Gonzalez let her go and tagged in Kai to kick Catanzaro down. Quick tags from Kai & Gonzalez had Catanzaro in trouble, but Carter was able to get the tag in.

    Dakota Kai Finishes Strong

Carter would take Kai down, and hit a dropkick to Gonzalez before rolling Kai through into a low superkick and Hana Kimura big boot on the bottom rope. Kai nailed the Scorpion Kick to regain control, before Gonzalez nailed a spin out sidewalk slam for a two count. An assisted lungblower from Kai would get another near fall, with Catanzaro providing the break.

Carter assisted Catanzaro in hitting a moonsault, before they took out Gonzalez on the outside. Kai was rocked with a kick to the face, and a Neckbreaker/450 Splash combo got a two count on Kai. Gonzalez hulked out and crushed both opponents on the outside, letting Kai nail Go To Kick for the win.

Carter & Catanzaro have been one of the best women’s tag teams in NXT for a while now, and this one was an incredible performance. Their speed and chemistry was akin to Paul London & Brian Kendrick, and will only go up from here. This was the best pure women’s tag team match in NXT yet, and Kai & Gonzalez are on their way to another title shot. Match Rating: 3.75/5 (*** 3/4)

Will Kai & Gonzalez become two time NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
