Ever since Jordan Devlin lost the NXT Cruiserweight Championship and returned to NXT UK, he’s been trying his best to make himself feel like the star wants to be. He’s demanded his own dressing room, spots of Supernova Sessions, and more. However, when A-Kid broke into his dressing room and made himself a coffee? Devlin was quick to get defensive and challenge A-Kid to a one on one match for this week’s edition of NXT UK.
Jordan Devlin Shows His Advantage
Devlin grabbed a wrist lock to start and take A-Kid down to the mat, only to end up in a tight headscissor hold. A-Kid wouldn’t be able to maintain the hold, but made it to his feet at the same time as Devlin. A quick kick to the midsection and a forearm dropped A-Kid to the mat, but he’d fend off a hold from Devlin. An ankle pick from A-Kid took Devlin down, but a headlock just saw him shoved off into the corner.
From the corner, A-Kid flowed out with an armdrag, before being hit with a monkey flip and getting dumped out of the ring by Devlin. They’re equal in technical skill, but Devlin is ready to use his meanstreak to take the lead. A-Kid would get back into the ring at 9, and Devlin would lay in some heavy forearms and a back suplex.
Devlin would hold his ground despite some leg kicks, and keep A-Kid on the mat. He’d pull him up for a backdrop, but A-Kid landed on his feet and nailed a dropick. Devlin blocked a tornado DDT attempt, and was able to hit a quick cutter over the top rope after finding himself on the apron. Another dropkick from A-Kid rocked Devlin, before a tight Fisherman Suplex got a two count.
A-Kid would move into a guillotine choke, and Devlin was able to counter out into a suplex position. Devlin blocked a roll up attempt and standing moonsault, before hitting the Uranage and going for a standing moonsault of his own. He’d land in a Triangle Hold, and just barely make the ropes.
Devlin was next put in a sleeper hold, but the damage to the arm of A-Kid earlier in the match came into play. A-Kid instead went for a kick and was countered into a standing spanish fly. A pinfall attempt from Devlin was countered into the Omoplata, but he’d get a toe on the rope to break free.
They’d throw some heavy strikes, with Devlin being dropped with a jumping forearm but A-Kid only getting a two count. Devlin was looking tired as A-Kid caught him with a quick German Suplex, and kept the waist control. A second German Suplex came but a third was blocked before Devlin nailed a headbutt and rolled outside. A-Kid dove right onto him, and they’d both be laid out on the floor.
Devlin would set up the Steel Steps and try to throw A-Kid into it, but was countered, and just barely avoided the steel. He’d dropkick the steps into the knees to A-Kid, before hitting a kneebreaker on the steel. Back in the ring, Devlin looked for the Devil-Inside Suplex, but A-Kid countered into a Code Red.
Unable to get the cover, he’d look for the running roundhouse, but was caught in the Four Leaf Clover. He’d get the ropes but was unable to get the advantage due to the hurt legs. Devlin would simply bend the leg in an unnatural way, and force the submission to get a win.
This match was a perfect showcase from two of the best that NXT UK have to offer. It was fast paced and technically sound, with Devlin showing how far he’ll go for a victory. Match Rating: 3.75/5 (*** 3/4)
