Starting next week on WWE NXT officially is the 2021 Breakout Tournament. We last saw this tournament in 2019, and it introduced names like Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott, Boa, Bronson Reed, Dexter Lumis, Cameron Grimes, Joaquin Wilde and Angel Garza to WWE. ACH (fka Jordan Myles in WWE) was the winner, and the only participant not in the tournament. Following last night’s episode of NXT, we now know the full field of eight for this year’s tournament.
Joe Gacy & Andre Chase Qualified On 205 Live Last Friday
We already knew two names in the field after WWE held qualifying matches on 205 Live this past week. Former CZW World Champion Joe Gacy defeated Desmond Troy, while Andre Chase defeated Guru Raaj to qualify.
There was seemingly two qualifying matches technically set for this week on 205 Live, as reports indicate qualifying matches took place, but they might also have been tune ups for the talent as a way to keep 205 Live alive. Josh Briggs vs. Asher Hale & Grayson Waller vs. Odyssey Jones are the matches, with Briggs & Jones coming in as part of the tournament. Jones is a former football player, while Briggs was the final Evolve Champion.
Rounding Out The Field Of The 2021 Breakout Tournament
The other four announced names start with recent Cruiserweight favorite Ikeman Jiro. He was starting a promising tag team with August Grey, before Grey got cut. Now Jiro is riding solo, and his character work and charisma will continue to have fans be interested.
Carmello Hayes & Trey Baxter have been in action recently on NXT, both having challenged KUSHIDA for the Cruiserweight Championship. Hayes also wrestled Adam Cole in a great effort, and is a very high prospect for NXT.
Finally the last name is the man formerly known as Brendan Vink, now under the name Duke Hudson. Hudson briefly appeared on RAW in a tag team with Shane Thorne (Slapjack), before coming back to NXT. He briefly took the name Tony Modra after a famous Aussie League Football player, before changing to Duke Hudson.
This makes the full field as followed: Trey Baxter, Carmelo Hayes, Andre Chase, Josh Briggs, Ikeman Jiro, Joe Gacy, Odyssey Jones, & Duke Hudson. Who is your pick to win the 2021 Breakout Tournament? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
