Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s handling of their daughter Lilibet’s christening could be a make or break decision on whether the couple will ever be fully accepted into the Royal family once again.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Have A Huge Decision To Make Over Lilibet’s Christening
The pair have had a tumultuous relationship with the Royals ever since they left and released their bombshell interview with Oprah on CBS. While Harry has reportedly reunited with Prince William, Meghan has been left out of the picture.
And given that she is the mother of Queen Elizabeth’s grandkids, her handling of the christening will reveal all. According to Royal expert Daniela Elser, a decision to hold the christening in the UK could repair the family relations.
She remarked: “If the Sussexes were to decide they wanted the christening to happen back in the UK…then it would be construed as an olive branch after years of intra-family squabbling and rancour.”
It is not clear how things will turn out, especially since Meghan has not returned to the UK since her departure. After all, she had an opportunity to attend with Harry at the unveiling of his late mother, Princess Diana’s statue.
And yet, she was noticeably absent. Therefore, if the christening was done overseas, Meghan will have made it clear that she has no intention of ever getting back into the good books of the Royals.
Daniela added: “If the Sussexes’ decided to hold the ceremony in California…it would be seen as nothing less than a clear rejection of the royal family.” However, the couple could decide to do something even more radical.
That is to skip the ceremony all together. This would be a real kick in the teeth for the Queen, who has had a ceremonious role in being present at such christenings. Daniela’s following comments confirmed as much: “There is also a third option.
“They decide to skip a baptism entirely. But again, this too would be read as deeply disrespectful to Her Majesty.” Time will tell what Harry and Meghan decide to do, but if the couple are looking for a way back in, then this could be the time to put aside their differences.
