One of the many people released from WWE in this past year was Killian Dain. Having been signed back in 2016, Dain was able to make an impact in the company as a former WWE NXT Tag Team Champion, and due to his involvement in the first NXT WarGames match. Even in 2021 he was still a popular name in NXT due to his odd couple tag team with Drake Maverick, which was cut short due to his release.
Killian Dain Was Concerned About His Position In WWE
However Dain was not part of some internal list that was setting people up for release, as we’ve now learned from an interview Dain did with the It’s My House podcast. With how many names were being cut from WWE, Dain was concerned about his place in the company, as he’d reveal in the following quote.
“I was more prepared to be released last year, when the major cuts happened. Even asked a writer last year, I asked the writer because I wasn’t doing something at the time and I asked was I on any of these lists and he said you were on none of the lists, you weren’t even on any of the potential lists so you know, that was obviously great to know”
Dain Recently Signed A Contract Extension
However, this isn’t what was really telling when it came to Dain’s release not being planned. Every writer in the company likely wouldn’t know the exact names planned for release, but WWE wouldn’t be offering contract extensions to those planned for release; and Dain had signed one shortly before being let go.
“I just signed an extension, not a lot of people know this, but I just signed an extension so I could easily have been gone at the same time as Alexander Wolfe, because our deals expired on the same day. So I genuinely believe that this is something that was a last minute thing you know?” Dain would say on the previously mentioned It’s My House podcast.
This puts Dain alongside others like Ever-Rise, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson who were let go from WWE shortly after coming to new agreements with the company. These recent cuts have shown WWE doesn’t really care about contract status when making roster cuts, and that there are few ways for anyone besides top main event talents to feel truly safe.
