The feud between Violence Unlimited & The Foundation is showcased tonight at Best in the World in two separate matches, but despite having no titles on the line, this is the one with more attention. Brody King is looking to make a major impact in Ring of Honor with this faction behind him, and he’s proven that he can take Jay Lethal out. Tonight, they will clash one on one in a major grudge match, and we will see if violence can beat technical prowess.
Brody King Mauls Jay Lethal
Code of Honor was adhered to, before King just threw Lethal aside as he went for a single leg takedown. Lethal took the straps down on his singlet before throwing some strikes, sticking and moving before being caught in the corner for some heavy blows. King would be caught by Lethal Injection after Lethal got free, but this early finisher attempt only got a one count.
Lethal would catch King on the outside with a trifecta of suicide dives, a siganture combo, before hitting a fourth and a baseball slide. King would keep on coming forward and get into the ring to dump Lethal over the top rope with a back suplex to the outside. Lethal was pulled into the ring by his head and propped onto the top rope, King nailing a chop to Lethal to send him tumbling down into the ring.
A Pillar Of ROH Has Fallen
King would batter Lethal down into the corner before choking him with his boot. Lethal fired back with some forearms, before being dropped with a double chop. King would fishhook the mouth of Lethal, adding some insult to injury. A superplex was set up by King, before Lethal countered into a powerbomb. Lethal looked for the Figure Four and was kicked away, before King nailed a snap piledriver.
Fleeing to the outside got Lethal no relief, as King followed. King set up a chair and sat Lethal into it, before chopping him down into it. Lethal would be crushed with a crossbody block on the outside, between the chair and the barricade. A Death Valley Driver on the apron got a two count back in the ring, before Lethal did his best to block the Gonzo Bomb. A lariat would drop Lethal, before two Gonzo Bombs took him out.
This was akin to when Mr. Brodie Lee squashed Cody Rhodes in AEW. Brody King just tore through a two time ROH World Champion, one of the best ROH has to offer. He proved violence was the answer. This was less of a match, more of a mugging, and just an all out assault, but it was beautiful in terms of storytelling. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
Jay Lethal still has to step in for a defense of the ROH World Tag Team Championships tonight. Can he defend those titles after this mauling? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
