Prince William has hit back at the racist remarks that were directed against the England football team following their loss in the Euro 2020 final.
Prince William Left Feeling Disgusted At Racists Attacking The England Football Team
England, for their part, took the game to penalties with either side capable of grabbing the victory. As the events transpired, three footballers who missed the penalties (Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho) were attacked after the game with racial slurs on social media.
It took the gloss off the performance of a team that had done so well to reach the final and who on another day could have walked away as champions. In response, William made sure that he called out those responsible by demanding that action be taken.
In a post to his fans on Twitter, William remarked: “I am sickened by the racist abuse aimed at England players after last night’s match. It is totally unacceptable that players have to endure this abhorrent behaviour. It must stop now, and all those involved should be held accountable.”
William, though, has done a lot of work on racial equality. Just recently, he also hit out at those who made racist comments against another footballer, Raheem Sterling. Although his words look to have been ignored, it does not detract from the fact that William holds this issue very close to him.
This has been made more noticeable given that he is the President of the Football Association in England. The organisation also followed things up with a similar view of condemnation. In an official statement, the organisation said: “The FA strongly condemns all forms of discrimination and is appalled by the online racism that has been aimed at some of our England players.
“We could not be clearer that anyone behind such disgusting behaviour is not welcome in following the team.” It has taken William a lot of courage to call out such people, given that the Royal family had been accused of doing similar behaviour to Meghan Markle’s son Archie. Regardless, William’s stance should be applauded.
