Back in 2019, Finn Balor had his return to where he got his start in WWE with NXT. During his time there, he was able to reinvent himself as a more serious character, no longer relying on the Demon character. However, after having a second reign as NXT Champion and putting Karrion Kross over as champion with two fantastic matches, it’s time for him to leave NXT once again. Tonight could be the night we see him return to Smackdown Live.
Finn Balor Was Expected To Return To RAW
Tonight’s Smackdown Live is going to be a special one, as it’s the first time WWE has left Florida since the start of the pandemic, and will be the first show with live fans since Wrestlemania. WWE has already thrown together a big main event, which will see Roman Reigns & The Usos take on Edge, & The Mysterios, but they will have some extra plays up their sleeve. One of them could be Finn Balor.
Since his last match with Karrion Kross sent him away from NXT, the plan was to send Balor to Monday Night RAW. However, a last minute change indicates that he is on his way to Smackdown Live instead. This is an interesting choice, as RAW is more in need of talent with its three hour run-time, but Balor could fill a role intended for Aleister Black on Smackdown. Returning on the first big show back would be a great sign for the future of Balor, and sets him up well for a big match at Summerslam.
Smackdown Is Down A Character
Black was in the process of debuting a new character when he was released from WWE, one which has now been carried over to AEW. Balor wouldn’t have the same character, but could fit into the same role of a violent upper midcard talent chasing the WWE Intercontinental Championship. He’s also got a few singles wins over Roman Reigns, which is a fact that WWE could use to set up a future championship match.
WWE could run this match, then draft him to RAW in October as needed. Balor over the past year and a half has been incredibly consistent, and we can only hope this carries back over to the Vince McMahon run world of Smackdown & RAW.
