Peter Phillips, who happens to be the grandchild of the late Prince Philip, has opened up on the legacy that his grandfather had left behind.
Peter Phillips Looks Back On His Grandfather Prince Philip’s Legacy
Philip, for his part, had been suffering from ill-health, which saw him hospitalised for around a month this year. While he had the best medical care that was around, it was not enough to save him from passing at the age of 99. But he left his mark on the Royal family, none more so than on Peter himself.
In an interview with the BBC, Peter said: “He was such a fixture of all of our lives. He is sorely missed. He lived a remarkable life, and if any of us can even live half the life that he did, we would all be extraordinarily happy.” Another person who had suffered a lot from his death was, of course, Queen Elizabeth II.
In what was clearly a very difficult time for her, it was made a whole lot worse due to the pandemic. The covid restrictions that were put in place made it very difficult for Peter to be around the Queen at a time when she needed the support of her family.
He added: “We’ve been trying to support her as much as we can. Everybody saw the image of Her Majesty sitting alone [at the funeral]…the hardest part is not being able to hug those closest to the person who’s been lost.” Nevertheless, Peter did try to take some positives out of it.
His own kids had been able to learn from Philip first-hand, which did soften the blow. In addition, given that many families had suffered losing a loved one during this time, Peter tried to look at the happiness they had all shared with Philip. He continued: “There have been some great sadnesses.
“But at the same time, you’ve got to try to take the positives out of these situations, whether that be new life or happy memories, that’s what you’ve got to focus on.” Philip may no longer be here, but he has left behind many grandkids that will continue to honour his legacy.
