If the upcoming New Japan Pro Wrestling special “Resurgence” wasn’t already big enough, we have another major match now announced for this event. The card was already set to be one of the best of the year with standouts like Jay White vs. David Finlay as well as Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Lance Archer, but a special singles match has been added to the mix, and it features someone from Impact Wrestling. Moose is set to take on Tomohiro Ishii.
Moose Hasn’t Worked With NJPW Since 2016
This match was announced earlier today on Twitter by the official NJPW of America twitter account. Moose is going to be making his NJPW return here, having previously worked with them through joint events with ROH. He’s been away since 2016, and has improved immensely in that time. This isn’t even the first time he met Ishii one on one, with this actually being a rematch that happened previously at War of The Worlds 2016.
Ishii won on that night, giving Moose even more reason to look for a win on the much bigger stage. Considering how much better Moose is now compared to his 2016 self, and that Ishii remains one of the best brawlers in professional wrestling history, this match should be a hard hitting affair that will have the audience on the edge of their seats.
More Impact Wrestling Stars Are Expected
While a lot of NJPW talent has been appearing on Impact Wrestling, it hasn’t really been working the other way around until now. Moose is confirmed for the event, but two other names from Impact could be showing up as well. Fans are expecting to see Sami Callihan on the show, as Jon Moxley has kept his partner a secret for the upcoming tag team match with Gallows & Anderson. Callihan & Moxley are reuniting on the indies as Switchblade Conspiracy, and could bring that to Resurgence.
Another safe bet is current X-Division Champion Josh Alexander. Alexander has been working some matches on NJPW Strong, and is looking for the best in the world to step up and face him for his championship. He’s called out the AEW Locker Room, but don’t be surprised if he calls out NJPW closer to this event and has a Jr. Heavyweight showcase.
