Conor McGregor Has “At Least Four or Five” More Fights: Dan Hardy

Conor McGregor may be away from the Octagon nursing his broken leg, but when he comes back he’ll be fighting for a long time. That’s according to UFC fighter-turned-commentator Dan Hardy, who sees “The Notorious” maintaining a long, fruitful career in MMA.

Talking to The Bleacher Report, Hardy discussed his vision for Conor McGregor’s future, and what he recommends the former double champion address about his game to ensure he can win again.

McGregor has “at least four or five” more fights: Dan Hardy

“I think he heals up and he regroups. We’re seeing him be rather reactive on social media, which I don’t think is a good look for him, and I think he’ll know that if he looks back in hindsight, but what his injury has done is it’s forced him to slow down.”

Many believe that McGregor’s second consecutive loss to Dustin Poirier marked the end of Conor’s tumultuous career. The power, agility, and excitement that drove McGregor to championship in two weight divisions was gone, replaced by late night tweet-and-delete sessions and screeching death threats into Joe Rogan’s microphone.

Hardy, however, believes that Conor will want to go out on a high note. “I think he’s desperate to get back in there and to leave people with a better impression of what he’s capable of. I do think he’s capable of so much more as well.

The difficulty that he has right now is to bring the right people around him that are going to really push his game forward. We already know what he’s very good at, but he needs a couple of different angles and a couple of different looks.

According to Dan Hardy, Conor needs to change his approach to fighting to really get the most out of whatever years he has left. The idea that Conor should change his game, and possibly even his team, in order to succeed again isn’t a new one. Hardy continued, even positing the idea of a return to boxing:

“He needs a few more weapons, so he can then bolster the ones that he’s already got. Hopefully, this time that he’s got to sit with a cast on his leg will give him time to think and figure that out.

There’s no way he disappears after an ankle break. I think we’ll probably see at least four or five more fights out of him. Maybe a couple more in the UFC, then he’ll cross over to boxing.”

Whatever’s next for Conor is a mystery, perhaps even to Conor himself. Do you think McGregor will continue to fight in the UFC when he heals up? Let us know in the comments.
